Simufact Additive is a scalable software designed to simulate metal-based additive manufacturing, particularly focusing on laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) and metal binder jetting (MBJ) processes.

The newly added "Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) Process and Defect Analysis" (PDA) module features a unique multi-scale, hybrid analytical-numerical model-based simulation approach. 

This approach was developed by Pratt & Whitney (P&W) and the Raytheon Technologies Research Center (RTRC), and it has been integrated into Simufact Additive by Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, Inc. (Hexagon). This model allows for the prediction of thermal history and defects at the scan vector and powder layer level in just minutes.

Predicting defects in full-scale geometries

This  advanced module empowers engineers to predict thermal history and defects on a detailed level. Developed by Pratt & Whitney (P&W), and the Raytheon Technologies Research Center (RTRC), this innovative technology is now a key part of Simufact Additive software by Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, Inc.

The advanced model predicts thermal history and defects at the scan vector and powder layer levels within minutes. It accurately forecasts the risk of local defects such as keyholing, lack of fusion, balling up, and surface roughness, providing insights beyond conventional simulations.
